Teaching philosophy
In our schools today, it seems as if PE is left behind in the attempt to raise scores in other subjects such as maths, literature or science. In my humble opinion, this is a mistake because PE is perhaps one of the most important academic subjects at school. WHY? Let's take a look at a student who could eventually grow up to become one of the greatest mathematician or scientist in all of history, but if this student doesn't know how to take care of themselves, all that talent means nothing if the same student suffers from a disease that could have been prevented with regular physical education.
My teaching philosophy follows two important principles:
I believe that an overall healthy lifestyle aids in a positive and rewarding life. Maintaining regular physical activity, proper nutrition and an overall healthy mind and body are important and should be the main focus in everyone's life. We are all given just one body and it's important that we take the best care of it that w can. I believe that everyone can achieve a healthy and happy lifestyle with the proper education and content knowledge. It is my mission as an educator to change the perception of what exercise is. When people think of exercise, most think of long boring runs, push-ups, sit-ups, jumping jacks, burpees and so on. Exercise is being labeled as boring and hard to do. That's why i always bring elements of fun, competition and laughter into my lessons, so that my students develop a love not for P.E itself, but to keep themselves active throughout their lives.
My grades in P.E are determined not only by skill level, but also by participation, enthusiasm and effort. As a physical educator, it is my mission to create a positive and informative environment helping students to learn about the importance of staying active through physical, cognitive and affective domains. My lessons are always a safe and fun environments for students to learn about keeping their bodies healthy along with fundamental skills involved in sports and other athletic activities.
My teaching philosophy follows two important principles:
- LIFE-LONG: Physical education not only teaches students life-long skills on preventing inactivity and learning about healthy growth and development, it also teaches students social interaction and team building skills that they can apply to any career they choose. That's why i always plan a varied number of sports and activities throughout the school year, so that students can experiment a great number of sports and at the same time develop the motor skills to participate in any activity at later stages in life.
- INCLUSIVE: I believe in participation as being a key factor in guiding my physical education philosophy. Not every student is an exceptional athlete, however by participating and trying their best, students will gain skills and a better understanding of what it means to be physically educated.
